What is airlaid, and how is it different from a paper napkin?
Airlaid is a nonwoven cellulose material. Unlike ordinary paper napkins, which are formed by suspending fibers in water, airlaid fibers are laid down in a current of air and then bonded. The result is a material with loft and body rather than flatness. It has the hand and the drape of woven linen, and it holds a fold the way cloth does.
For a set table this matters more than it sounds. An airlaid napkin sits on the plate with weight to it. It does not collapse, it does not go transparent when wet, and it does not tear when a guest opens it. Airlaid napkins (serviettes) are the closest a single-use napkin comes to a laundered one, which is why they are the standard in fine dining, hotel restaurants and event catering across Europe.

What are airlaid napkins made of, and how heavy are they?
Our airlaid napkins are 100% cellulose, single ply, at 50 to 55 g/m2 depending on the size. The 40 x 40 cm dinner napkin is 55 g/m2. For comparison, a single ply of ordinary tissue is roughly 17 to 18 g/m2, so a standard 3-ply tissue napkin reaches a similar weight only by stacking three separate layers. Airlaid gets there in one, which is why it behaves like cloth instead of paper.
The raw material is fluff pulp: cellulose fibers defibrated back into individual strands. Those loose fibers are air-laid into a uniform web on a forming wire, then bonded into a stable sheet. No water is used in forming, which is what leaves the fiber structure open and gives airlaid its thickness and absorbency.
Because the sheet is built rather than pressed, an airlaid napkin absorbs several times its own weight and stays intact while it does it. It is a single-ply material at a weight that ordinary tissue only reaches at three or four plies, and it feels nothing like them. Airlaid is made from cellulose and is biodegradable.

Airlaid tablecloths, runners and table covers: how they are supplied
The same airlaid material, on the roll. Tablecloths come unperforated and continuous, so you cut to the exact length of your tables rather than working around a fixed size. Runners give you a band down the center of a bare table. Table covers are the wide rolls, for covering the full surface.
All three are supplied plain, in the same 17 colors as the napkins, so the whole table reads as one setting. They are not printed. If you want your logo on the table, it goes on the napkin.

How custom logo printing on napkins works, step by step
- 01Send us your logo. Any usable file format, we will tell you if it needs work.
- 02We send you a free visualization: your logo, on your chosen napkin, in your chosen color, so you see the real thing before you commit.
- 03You approve the visualization and sign it off.
- 04Production and delivery.
Printing on our napkins (serviettes) is done in one or two colors. Minimum order quantities depend on the product and the size. Ask us and we will give you the exact figure for what you are looking at.
